Ladies and Gentlemen…start your engines, tune up your bikes, grab your hiking boots! The Eat Well Guide is challenging you to find good food on the road, wherever your travels take you this spring break!
And for the first time ever, we’re offering PRIZES to spring breakers who plan the most creative, local food oriented trips!
FIRST PLACE gets your group a $100 gift certificate to the Eat Well Guide location of your choice, plus a goodie bag of stylish Eat Well gear. But ANYONE who sends us their local/sustainable food eat-inerary will be rewarded with some hip Eat Well Guide swag.
As you’re plotting your adventure – be it road tripping, beach bumming or backpacking – use our handy, FREE, Eat Well Everywhere (EWE) mapping tool. With EWE, you can map out your trip and find over 15,000 listings of farms, markets, restaurants and other places offering locally grown, sustainably produced foods throughout the US and Canada. Then create a customized downloadable travel guide of the places you’ve found, complete with directions, so you can steer clear of awful road food (you know what we’re talking about — gas stations and fast food joints aren’t doing your body, or the environment, or our local economies, any favors).
To ENTER THE CONTEST or for more information, join the Facebook event, “Eat Well Everywhere: Spring Break ‘09 Challenge” and then when you get back (or from the road) send your trip details and photo documentation (in other words, yes, please do take pictures of your food, your friends and the places you stopped) to info@eatwellguide.org. Or post a comment directly on the Facebook wall of this event. Send us your information by April 10, 2009 to qualify.

I am going to share this great idea with my nutrition clients!

Just a thought: maybe you want to suggest a site to offset the carbon load of all this travel. Or give credit for most carbon-neutral itinerary.

Good point, Michael! Traveling by car or plane can mean so serious greenhouse gas emissions. If you’re planning to travel by those means, looking into carbon credits – or other methods of reducing emissions elsewhere, like planting a garden or weatherproofing your home – is a great idea. Even better, have a low-carbon adventure using trains, buses, bicycles or a good pair of hiking boots!
Finally, this Challenge isn’t limited to cross-country vacations – they can be cross-town, or even a homegrown potluck in your own backyard garden. After the challenge, we’ll definitely give shout-outs to super-eco-friendly itineraries!
