Rock out for Family Farmers

September 18th, 2008 by leslie · No Comments

On September 20th, the annual Farm Aid Concert will take place in Mansfield, MA. This will be the first time Farm Aid takes place in New England, making it a very exciting time to be in the Boston Area!

Farm Aid began over 20 years ago as a benefit concert to raise awareness about the loss of family farms and to raise funds to keep farm families on their land. Farm Aid has grown considerably since then, expanding to become a nonprofit that actively works to promote small farms in a variety of ways. Farm Aid not only raises awareness in the general population through the Good Food Movement, but it also provides farmers with resources and works with policymakers to promote fair farm policies and to bolster family farm centered agriculture.

This year the concert will include mainstay headliners, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, and Dave Matthews, as well as an extensive list of other amazing talent. The annual benefit concert will celebrate music and good food, featuring hands-on activities in the HOMEGROWN Village that will showcase the direct connection between who is growing our food and what we eat every day. Of course, Farm Aid is working with local businesses to serve sustainable food at the concert, such as that of Stone Hearth Pizza, a local pizza chain that uses organic and local ingredients. While the best way to experience the concert is in person, a free live webcast will be available on FarmAid.org starting at 4pm.
