Water, water, everywhere…

Water ConservationI was offline, traveling yesterday, and just got online and finally saw the blog (thanks and congrats to everyone at Eat Well for making it happen!) and some of the fantastic responses we’ve gotten so far. Thanks everybody! I’m writing today from a cafe in New Orleans, where I’ll be for the next week, enjoying Jazz Fest and meeting with some local food organizations. I’ll be blogging about that later, but in the meantime, I wanted to mention a few things about water.

First, the Water: H20 = Life site has been nominated for a Webby award! Water: H2O=Life is not only the most exciting exhibition that’s been launched in the past couple years, the website has now been nominated for the Webby People’s Voice awards! Produced by the American Museum of Natural History and strongly supported by the Tamarind Foundation, the exhibition and website teach us how precious fresh water is (which makes up only 3% of the earth’s surface), and how, if we’re not careful, we might not have any for future generations. The website details such things as where water comes from, the accessibility, cost, regeneration of, and so much more that we often take for granted. The Webby Awards are “the” awards for websites – winning a Webby will give the Water: H2O=Life site exposure to a huge number of people – people who need to learn about problems we all face with our dwindling fresh water supplies and what we can do to preserve fresh water for us and future generations. Please vote today! Just go to http://pv.webbyawards.com/account/pv_login and register.

Once on the site, click on “Website”, “Society”, “Science” and then “Water: H2O=Life”. It’s quick, it’s easy – and it a way to help save the planet! Winners will be announced May 6th so make sure you vote today!

Second, Food & Water Watch announced the winner of their “I Heart Tap Water” contest yesterday! The top award went to Erin Klein from University of Cincinnati for her brilliant stop-motion animation. Be sure to stop by and check out all the winners. Lastly, in case you missed it, Eat Well Guide now offers water-conscious ratings to let you know when restaurants and other vendors are conserving water and offering alternatives to bottled. Look for the water droplet!Water Conservation
